Clinton Cards

The windows of the former Clinton Cards shop in Bridgwater have been transformed with a new look, thanks to a creative project led by Bridgwater Town Council and the Bridgwater Town Team.

The storefront is now wrapped in a vibrant, illustrated map of the town, designed by local artist Alison Jacobs. This colourful installation is part of an initiative to enhance the appearance of the town centre and attract more footfall.

While some empty units remain, Bridgwater enjoys a lower-than-average shop vacancy rate compared to the national figure.

Bridgwater Town Council and the Bridgwater Town Team are working together to make the town centre more inviting. The Town Team, made up of local businesses and representatives from the Sedgemoor Chamber and Bridgwater Town Council, focuses on supporting and promoting commerce in the heart of Bridgwater.

With a growing population and a strong sense of community, the Town Team encourages local businesses to get involved and help shape Bridgwater’s town centre.

Cllr Mick Lerry from Bridgwater Town Council said: “Of course, we’d rather see every shop open and thriving. But with high streets across the country facing challenges, it’s vital we don’t let vacant units drag down the town centre. Projects like this help keep Bridgwater looking fresh and welcoming and show our commitment to a vibrant future.”

Shop front grants are available for permanent visual improvements to retail premises. These grants aim to encourage new and existing retail and service businesses to enhance their storefronts, thereby attracting more shoppers to the town centre. Improvements could include upgraded signage, enhanced kerb appeal, or other visual enhancements.
