The Carnival Show | Wednesdays | 7pm – 9pm
Ben Hucker – Carnival Show Co-Host
Ben Hucker brings the colour and excitement of Somerset’s illuminated carnivals to Sedgemoor fm every Wednesday evening. His show is dedicated to carnival past and present, packed with music, memories and plenty of laughter alongside his co-presenter Bill Bevan
A lifelong carnival enthusiast, Ben first became involved with Sedgemoor fm after years of listening to the carnival show. In 2024, while providing commentary at Andersea Classic and Vintage, he was invited by Bill to see things from the other side of the desk. From that moment, he became a regular voice on the station, sharing his passion for one of the region’s best-loved traditions.
For Ben, the show is more than just radio. It is a community hub for carnival clubs across Bridgwater and beyond. Many listeners tune in while working on their carts, shaping their evenings around the music and conversation that celebrate the carnival spirit.
The programme, which Ben describes as “the best kept secret in the South West,” plays hits from the archives alongside newer tracks. Each week brings a mix of favourites, stories and light-hearted moments, often sparked by the unpredictable arrival of Miss Natalie, whose choices always add fun to the mix.
Community and Carnival
Carnival may be at the heart of the show, but Ben Hucker also uses his platform to support wider community issues. He is passionate about protecting green spaces, preserving farmland and encouraging more wildlife projects in Bridgwater. For him, the countryside and its heritage are just as important as the carnival streets.
Memorable moments include his very first interview with the next generation JCC, as well as the many unscripted laughs when things do not go exactly to plan. Listeners can also expect the occasional cheesy 80s track – the kind that might sound unusual at home but becomes the best song ever at a carnival afterparty.
Away from the station, Ben enjoys taking his tractors to local steam rallies and spends many weekends at shows across the region. He is also a big fan of local food, recommending The Hungry Caterpillar in town for its sandwiches and jacket potatoes.
Tune in on Wednesday evenings to hear Ben Hucker and his co-host Bill Bevan celebrate carnival, community and the unique spirit of Sedgemoor.
