Andy Saunders – Weekday Lunchtimes
Andy Saunders brings a mix of great music, laughs and a lunchtime pick-me-up to Sedgemoor fm, joining listeners over the middle of the day for a show that’s all about having a laugh and not taking things too seriously. His approach is simple: play great tunes, keep things light, and get the community involved.
Andy first got involved with Sedgemoor fm when he was asked to cover a few shows, and not long after that he was invited to present the Love show. He’s stuck around because of long-standing friendships with Dave Englefield, Mark Painter and “Whitty”, having known them for over 20 years and presented on a few other stations alongside them in the past.
Think Local First
For Andy, “Think Local First” is all about backing local businesses. It’s the independent traders who rely on customers to survive and who help keep the whole area alive. He’s especially fond of how friendly people are around Bridgwater and Sedgemoor, saying you can say hello to anyone for a chat and it brightens their day.
One community moment that has stuck with him is the station’s Tonne of Tins campaign, and just how generous local people were in supporting those around them.
Where Be Andy At
The standout feature on Andy’s show is “Where Be Andy At,” a weekly game where listeners try to guess his location over five days using a different clue each day. It’s a fun way of getting the audience involved and keeping them guessing, much like the interactive spirit of the station’s other shows.
Although Andy was a teenager in the 1980s, he still likes to sneak in a few great tracks from the 60s when he can. He also has a pre-show ritual of practising beforehand, though he jokes it never quite makes the show perfect.
Fun Facts and Desert Island Songs
A fun fact most listeners wouldn’t know is that Andy is a twin, and he’s ten minutes older than his sibling. If he were stranded on a desert island with only three songs, he’d take Take That’s “Greatest Day,” Dua Lipa’s “Training Season,” and Dire Straits’ “Your Latest Trick”.
Listeners should tune in, Andy says, because his show is fun, full of great music, and it’s a place where you can get involved and be part of the show. For a local hidden gem, he recommends grabbing a bacon bap from the burger van near Halfords, then taking it for a walk down by the canal – assuming it hasn’t mysteriously disappeared by then.
