YOU CAN'T STOP THERE!No, we're not talking about blocking traffic in Bridgwater...We're talking about local history.Last year, Sedgemoor fm filmed 7 episodes exploring some of the stories, places and characters that helped shape our local area. Job done. Or so we thought...Then people started telling us the same thing."You can't stop there.""You've not done King Alfred.""What about Bridgwater Castle?""Surely you can't leave out The Bloody Assizes?"And when enough people tell you the same thing, you start to realise they're probably right. We think local history is really about seeing that old fusty thing you've walked past and suddenly looking at it differently. It's about discovering that one of the biggest castles in England once stood in Bridgwater... and now most of us only guess it existed due to the street names. It's about hearing a story you've known since school, then hearing Dave Englefield tell it in his own way. And then realising, you've somehow never heard it told quite like that before. And that why we ended up filming 3 more episodes. That journey took us from King Alfred School, where Dave asked students whether burning cakes makes a king more relatable or less trustworthy with a toaster...To Bridgwater Castle, where Aerin Ward and Dylan built their own Lego version of a fortress on the office carpet - we wish someone would build a relica and stick it in a museum... To King Alfred's Monument, where Piggy’s Sandwich Bar attempted the impossible...You see, Dave insists he isn't a cake eater. Plain. Boring. Predictable. Totally unlike his breakfast show!). But we think the team at Piggy's almost converted him to cake.Since launching last September, our history video series has been watched more than 1,000 times every month. The whole project started because we wanted to help local families find somewhere to explore during the holidays. AND help visitors stop, stay and support the communities they clog up as they pass through town on holiday. These three new episodes take the series to 10. You can watch the original 7 episodes on YouTube right now, subscribe to the channel, and get ready for the final three chapters of local history coming soon. Here be the link: www.youtube.com/@sedgemoorfm104.2And now... we're on to the next bit of mischief... A few more episodes that'll take you behind the scenes at the Studio. 😉#thinklocalfirst ...
