Bridgwater’s Quayside Trampoline & Gymnastics Club enjoyed one of its strongest national championship weekends to date at the National Age Group Finals and British Trampoline Championships in Telford, with podium finishes, British Championship medals and five individual finalists.
The two-day event at the Telford International Centre on 3–4 October brought together many of the country’s leading trampoline gymnasts, with Quayside achieving a club-record level of representation across individual and synchronised competition.
Saturday’s National Age Group Finals ended on a high with two Quayside podium finishes. Emma Mason secured bronze in the 15–16 Women’s competition, while Theo Gundry-White also took bronze in Senior Men. Both performances secured their places in Sunday’s British Championships.
They joined Conor Gill, Amber Lynham, Adalyne Sperry, Jamie Pugsley and Mike Oleksiyevets, giving Quayside an outstanding seven individual qualifiers for the British Championships.
Sunday began with the synchronised finals, where Quayside athletes produced two superb medal-winning performances.
Mike Oleksiyevets and Ollie Lacey delivered an excellent performance to take silver in the Senior Men’s Synchronised final, while Jamie Pugsley and Elliott Hares claimed bronze in the Junior Men’s Synchronised final.
Quayside was also represented in the synchronised championships by Amber Lynham and Adalyne Sperry in Youth Women and Theo Gundry-White and Tom Gibson in Senior Men, completing an exceptional level of representation for the club.
Attention then turned to the individual British Championship semi-finals. Five Quayside gymnasts successfully progressed into their respective national finals — another significant achievement for the Somerset club.
In the finals, Emma Mason and Jamie Pugsley both came agonisingly close to the podium with outstanding fourth-place finishes. Mike Oleksiyevets finished sixth in Senior Men, Theo Gundry-White seventh, and Amber Lynham eighth in Youth Women.
The final individual results were:
- Emma Mason – 4th, Junior Women
- Jamie Pugsley – 4th, Junior Men
- Mike Oleksiyevets – 6th, Senior Men
- Theo Gundry-White – 7th, Senior Men
- Amber Lynham – 8th, Youth Women
The weekend therefore concluded with five individual British Championship finalists, a British synchronised silver medal, a British synchronised bronze medal and two National Age Group bronze medals.
A Quayside spokesperson said:
“This was a very special weekend for the club. To arrive at the British Championships with a record number of individual and synchronised qualifiers was already a huge achievement, but the performances across the weekend made it even more memorable.
“We had two podium finishes at the National Age Group Finals, two British Championship synchronised medals and five gymnasts progressing all the way through to individual British finals.
“What is particularly pleasing is the depth we are now developing across different age groups. These results are the product of a huge amount of work from the gymnasts, coaches and families who support them week after week.
“We are incredibly proud of every athlete who represented Quayside in Telford.”
