The first meeting of the Bridgwater South Pride in Place Board took place on Friday 31 July, marking a significant milestone in the delivery of a major government-backed programme that will bring up to £20 million of investment to the area over the next 10 years.
Pride in Place is a national initiative designed to put local people at the heart of decision-making, empowering communities to identify priorities and shape investment in projects that will make a lasting difference to residents’ lives. In Bridgwater South, the programme will focus on the communities surrounding The Meads, including Hamp and parts of Westover.
The inaugural Board meeting brought together the newly appointed Neighbourhood Board, including representatives from the local community, partner organisations and key stakeholders. The session provided an opportunity to begin shaping a shared vision for the area and explore the priorities and opportunities that will guide future investment.
The Board will play a key role in overseeing the programme and ensuring funding is directed towards projects that reflect the needs, ambitions and aspirations of local people.

Following the inaugural meeting, Board members will begin engaging directly with residents across Bridgwater South. One of the first opportunities will be at Bridgwater Playday at St Matthew’s Field on Wednesday 5 August, where people can learn more about Pride in Place and share their ideas for how the area’s £20 million allocation could be invested to create lasting benefits for the community.
