Sedgemoor fm tonne of tins

Sedgemoor fm has officially launched its 2025 “Tonne of Tins” Appeal, rallying listeners, businesses, and community groups across Bridgwater and Sedgemoor to help feed local families in need.

The campaign builds on the phenomenal success of last year’s effort, which saw the Sedgemoor fm community collect over 1,700 tins and non-perishable food items, making a significant contribution to families relying on the Bridgwater Foodbank across Bridgwater over Christmas.

Now in its second year, the 2025 appeal is aiming even higher. The goal: beat last year’s total and ensure no local family goes hungry this winter.

Collection points include:

  • Sedgemoor fm studio at the Town Hall
  • Angel Shopping Centre
  • Canteen at Junction 24
  • Eastover Indoor Shopping Centre
  • The Bridgwater Store, Queenswood Road

Sedgemoor fm Managing Director Dave Englefield said, “One tin or ten. It all helps. Last year we saw first-hand the generosity of our listeners, and local businesses as they came together to help their neighbours. That’s what Bridgwater is all about – Community. The Tonne of Tins Appeal shows that when our community pulls together, we can make an enormous difference. One tin or ten. It all helps and we ask people to give what they can.”

Yolanda Bentham, presenter on the Sedgemoor Life Show said, “I am proud to be associated with Sedgemoor fm’s tonne of tins appeal. No-one should have to choose between heating or eating, especially at this time of the year when families are under more pressure than ever.”

Judith Ballard, Chairperson for the Bridgwater Foodbank said, “At Bridgwater Foodbank we are entirely dependant on donations to complete our work supporting people in food poverty in our local area. The support that Sedgemoor fm gives us is invaluable – not only will we get a great food donation that will support many people in their time of crisis, but it also helps to promote the work of the Foodbank. We want everyone who is in need to know that the Foodbank is there for them  and to know how to contact us for help.”

Sedgemoor fm brought a number of it’s team and sponsors this week in Angel Place to officially relaunch the campaign and they plan other collection days with advertisers, sponsors and local businesses in the coming weeks.

If you wish to make a donation of tins or food to the foodbank please ensure the items are at least 3 months before their expiry date as sometimes the process of collecting, sorting and distributing food can take a few weeks. Please also avoid rusty or damaged tins

The Tonne of Tins Appeal is part of Sedgemoor fm’s wider mission as a Community Interest Company (CIC) to make a positive difference locally. Recent campaigns such as Think Local First and the Sedgemoor fm What’s On Guide have helped strengthen community ties, support local business, and encourage collective action across the region.
