Sedgemoor fm’s Tonne of Tins Campaign Collects 1,700 Tins for Local Foodbanks
Sedgemoor fm have announced the conclusion of their tonne of tins campaign.
The local broadcaster’s appeal, which begun in October, collected an estimated 1700 tins, along with additional essential items like pasta, rice, biscuits, noodles, and sauces.
These contributions will make a meaningful difference for families in Bridgwater and the surrounding areas, especially during the festive season.
6,734 people, including 2,654 children, in our Bridgwater community had to turn to foodbanks between March 2022 and 2023.
Dave Englefield, Managing Director at Sedgemoor fm said, expressed gratitude to everyone who contributed. “We were overwhelmed by the generosity of our listeners, local businesses, and town officials. The donations will go a long way in helping those who need it most. This campaign truly demonstrated the power of community spirit.”
Throughout the campaign, numerous local businesses, residents, and town officials stepped forward to support the cause. Donations poured in from across the region, with drop-off points at Angel Place Shopping Centre, Enmore park Golf Club, Squab Storage, Bridgwater Store, and Trev’s Local in Highbridge acting as hubs for this community effort.
The campaign’s impact was bolstered by the support of businesses such as West Country Drainage Services, SouthWest Trade Frames, Paul Smith Associates, Maxwell’s Accountants, Impact20Twenty, MJ Dodden Accountants, Hilton Ames, Waddons, Jools, Somerset Passenger Solutions, QSS IT and Pippa Whitfield Online Business Management. Additionally, public figures, including the Mayor of Bridgwater, representatives from Bridgwater Town Council, and Bridgwater Chamber of Commerce, added their support, along with members of the Sedgemoor fm team, inspiring others to get involved.
Ann Barnard, who started the Bridgwater Foodbank with her husband Kieth in 2013 said, “The situations families find themselves in these days are quite difficult. Having this wonderful donation, today of a tonne of tins, is something that just has made our day. Thank you to everybody who has contributed. It’s wonderful.”
Bridgwater Mayor, Jacqui Solomon said, “This has been a fantastic initiative from Dave and the team at Sedgemoor FM. It’s been just the most positive thing to be able to do at this time when we know everybody’s struggling, and it’s wonderful for so many to people contribute so generously.”
