What’s North Petherton known for?

North Petherton became a town in the late 20th century, having previously claimed to be the largest village in England.

It was also the location where the Alfred Jewel was originally discovered here, being a goldsmithing work commissioned for Alfred the Great. It is one of the greatest surviving pieces of Anglo-Saxon Jewelry.
