What’s Bridgwater know for?

Bridgwater is home to the UK’s oldest carnival, the Guy Fawkes Carnival. The town is also home to the Somerset Brick and Tile Museum and used to be home to Bridgwater Castle!

There are many things to see and do in Bridgwater. This includes:

Visiting Blake Museum, a 16th century house that the towns most famous citizen, Robert Blake was born in.
The McMillan Theatre, where many performances are held weekly.
Bridgy Gallery is a hidden gem. Located near Taunton Road, the tiny building holds many artworks of local Bridgwater based artists.
Bridgwater is home to many parks and gardens such as Blake and Cranleigh gardens, and Victoria, Mansfield, and Coronation Park. These places wonderfully showcase the nature that surrounds Bridgwater.
The town library located next to Blake gardens is a very beautiful building established as the library in 1905. It is also the registry office.
A new recent attraction is the new cinema, Scott Cinemas and the Allbowling alley, Allstars sports bowl bowling ally, behind the local shopping centre, Angel Place. The cinema includes a lounge area and a bar, and the bowling alley has a children play area and a few fast-food restaurants.
If you are interested in more active things to do, Bridgwater has two swimming pools at 1610, Chilton Trinity Lifestyle centre, which also includes a gym and fitness studios.
Another hidden gem of Bridgwater is the Timewarp Arcade. This arcade houses retro games and has recently opened up a second floor. It is the biggest arcade in the Southwest. The arcade can be found next to ASDA.
Somerset Brick and Tile Museum , an interactive museum that allows you to walk through the brick and tile industry of the 19th century.

Local events & nearby legends

Every year Bridgwater hosts the Guy Fawkes Carnival. This single is event is what the town is perhaps most famous for. The carnival occur on Saturday 4th November in 2023. The town also has the snowflakes event where the Christmas lights are switched on, on the last week of November.

Bridgwater is also known for the Manchip, a pastry that is only found here in Bridgwater and is so popular amongst locals that it generally sells out very quickly each day. You can find the Manchip at ReBello’s bakery.

Bridgwater also has several beautiful Georgian buildings so, if architecture is your thing be sure to visit.
